After having done a few tests, I think we can safely say that the Arkos player is better than the MYM on pretty much all points, except the number of available songs.
I made a small music demo using the 6502 Arkos player that both Xeron and ISS used for their demo and game, in the same format as the original MYM demo so you can easily see how to play these musics from a BASIC program loading them from disk.

Nothing brain blasting, but it compiles out of the box with the OSDK, and I guess it's what I'm going to use for Encounter.

Re: Arkos Tracker
Some advice would be welcome here as I must be easily confused!
I saw a link to the PT3 player and have converted this to run under dflat (BTW there is a bug in the Oric version which does not enable the AY I/O port when updating AY control register 7).
This seems to work well although the plater is around 4K in size.
So now I also see that Arkos (AKY format?) player can work well on Oric too.
The challenge I have is that I am no composer so really wanted something with a nice library of songs. I found a website with 1000's of PT3 files which is promising for using the PT3 player.
But is the Arkos AKY player better (seems to be smaller) - and is it possible to convert PT3 to AKY?
For the moment I think I will keep going with the PT3 player, just because of the huge library of songs - I could not find many AKY files (or any libraries)..

Re: Arkos Tracker
Yeah will maybe do that - I tried the Arkos Tracker software and does not recognise PT3 file format..
