The simple fact of having this 3D game running on our favourite machine is crazy ^^

It looks amazing. Congratulations!!! :)

(maybe if you remove the 'print', it will become a little faster)

Personally even when "printing" I tend to use sprintf directly on the screen, much faster than using printf :)

Well .. for now it is not yet a game .. it is just a Proof Of Concept to show what is possible to do with Castoric.

Impressive indeed!

A couple of questions...

First one, how would it look without colours? The dotted pattern might be a bit tiring and it is difficult to distinguish shapes. Specially the floor and ceiling may look better with flat inks, I think.

Second, what is the current effective resolution with this window size?

I don't know what it would look like without colours but I think it's a very good question to ask. And it makes me wish to try.
I think that will at least require a rework of textures.
Alas, I don'"t know how to use flat inks. It would require to change attributes inside scanline which is not thought that way.
Perhaps a noise color pattern modifier could break the monotony of the pattern on ceil and ground ..

But really I agree with you with the fact that the dotted pattern is ultra heavy ..

texels are 3*3 pixels wide (R, G, B).. and with this windows size, resolution is 50*40 texels

3x3 leaves little room for patterns, I guess. And rows should be even so the patterns repeat.

I was thinking about AIC, without the I part to begin with. Just cyan/green alternate inks and using patterns to create colours.

Just as examples with 3x2 texels

111
111

101
010

111
000

000
111

101
000

000
101

000
000

Would all produce different tints.

But it might not make things much better... In any case setting both ink attributes to white will produce a black and white picture with patterns. And you can change attributes dynamically.

Interesting is the question that @Chema raised about the monochrome color and AIK. It is interesting to see what would happen :).

I want to return to the issue of a completely monochrome mode (black and white). I think that interesting things can be achieved in this monochrome mode, I have seen many examples. I think it's good to give it a try :)

Here is one of the console ARDUBOY and "jhhoward" - James Howard what he did. (I emphasize the graphics (128 x 64) , not speed - the console is 16MHz)
