Sea battle

Hello everyone :)

Months ago (maybe April), while working on Boko's adventures, I decided to experiment with ORIC's AIC chart. I made a game that tested AIC mode to see how effective it was.

The new game is the old well known Sea Battle but with colorful redesign.

I didn't think to share it, but a friend suggested I post it here too :)
Thank you very much to ISS for his support and help. I really appreciate it!

Specifications:
- Written entirely in C with OSDK.
- Uses AIC mode.
- Oric Atmos compatible .
- The TAP file was tested in Oricutron and with TapOric on real Pravetz 8D.
- It's free!

Enjoy! All comments are highly anticipated!

Great!!
Very nicely done, thanks for sharing and thanks to your friend for asking you to do so ;)

One note: isn't you DSK file a bit big? I took a quick look, it seems to say it's single sided, I can't take a deeper look right now but that seems curious - but not a problem to play the game ;)

I spotted a small bug, playing the TAP version (didn't try on the DSK): after ending the 1st game, when starting a new game, LEVEL remains at 0 after each win.

Yes, this with level 0 is a small bug. It will be fixed.
I mean, the computer is not very smart. The difficulty of the game is raised by reducing the islands on the map.
My focus was to experiment with AIC mode :).

Well done on this part. I like how the red and blue dots are visible both in horizontal and vertical disposition!

Nice intro/outro screens, too, with a kind of Twilighte tribute :)

Awesome game, thanks so much for sharing it! As an avid Oric fan, I simply can't believe we're still getting such great things released for the machine, and your use of AIC really puts the Oric in new light. Well done .. off to waste a few hours playing .. ;)

EDIT: Just wanted to say, great intro/outro music - any tips for how this was produced?

I love it! A simple concept with exceptional presentation - some talent behind the making of this. Thank you for another NEW Oric game!

The files have been updated in the main post. Now there are two spurious images below that I can not remove. It might not have been a good idea to update the main post. :(

Congrats rax! You did it again.
Thank you for your enthusiasm and persistence to make finished projects!
It's great for Oric community to have such skilled programmer with artistic imagination.
... actually I have a good feeling you are already cooking something new ... ;)
Symoon wrote: Fri Oct 25, 2019 6:33 am... isn't you DSK file a bit big? I
Well spotted! DSK was produced with modified tap2dsk. I was trying to hack it to generate 17/80/D images, but it's still unfinished.
The update uses original tap2dsk and the DSK is smaller ;).

The intro was produced very quickly with already available tools and modules (background picture and music).
The scroller is new and programmed from zero. It uses 34 chars from the alternative charset, placed in the bottom 2 text-lines.
This 34 chars are dynamically redefined which gives fast and smooth animation. Additionally the big font was generated from a free TTF with ImageMagic using simple script for automation.
BTW, did you noticed how fast the scroller can be? Just leave it to run longer... ;)

Thanks for the new version :)

Dare I say I noticed something?
After losing a game, the comptuer plays first. Not sure if it's normal or not (after all, I began the 1st game, Oric can begin the 2nd ;) )

There are no promises for fair-play - who wins current game has the honor to play first - simply "The Winner Takes It All" :).
Actually I've checked and didn't find strict rules of "Sea battle" related exactly to this case... but IMHO it's fine as it is.
