Re: Is BD-DOS lost to time?

I've not got a Cumana Reborn yet as I've got Cumana boards. I was hoping Piotr (is that the right name?) would want to build them, but he wanted to make them smaller and came up with the Reborn design. I've got 2 or 3 that I've half-made. More projects to do !!! I know the Cumana interface will acce...

Re: Is BD-DOS lost to time?

And the answer to your question is no. The Cumulus emulates the Microdisc controller and the 4 floppy drives. There is no way to connect a real one. That's a shame. I thought the jumper on the board was to switch between drives? Anyway, it's a missed opportunity. I guess that leaves the Cumana rebo...

Re: Is BD-DOS lost to time?

I've got BD drives and Microdisc drives. I've got Cumana with 3.5" drives. I don't have a Gotek yet. I've been holding off from getting a Gotek as there is the issue with files being converted to it's format. I'm not aware of anything that can get the files back to Oric .dsk files (?) My Opel interf...

Re: Is BD-DOS lost to time?

OK, Mike.

Yes, my old PC with the floppy controller is not booting, so I can't convert things.
I've got some more memory but I think the BIOS settings arent' right. I need to have another look at it.

Re: Is BD-DOS lost to time?

Thanks Mike. I think those pages are in the collection Iss posted earlier. The picture shows a 'naked' hybrid as the real ones have a 'blister' over the ICs. (I'm not sure if that is just protective or has some other use?) Normally the plastic case is sealed shut. It's really an interface that is as...

Re: Oric Database

Yes, indeed, it's a problem with other sites taking the software and offering as ROMs. They tend to rename the files as well so it results in misinformation as well as a lack of information. Is it TOSEC the ROM sites use? They sometimes have something similar but lack information and the extra lengt...

Re: Oric Database

Yes, I agree with that. I think there's a problem with software not having an identifier so you can see whether it is Oric-1 or Atmos, (or other) by looking at it. The software on Oric.org gets copied and spread around with other archives renaming things. Filenames have got bigger with things like d...

Re: Oric Database

The original focus was on transfers of original tapes so there was not much interest in modified versions that appeared on disks, for example. I think I offered to copy some things years ago but it was rejected in favour of original tapes. I think the extra space that disks took up may have been a c...

Re: Oric cleaning :)

I think you'd have to leave it out in the sun for a while to get the red to discolour. I have one or two Atmos bottoms, so I'd just replace it, if it was that bad. I do have one Oric-1 that is quite discoloured. It was my first 48K one and came like that. I swapped the case for a nice one - but I do...

Re: Oric Database

Having a database is useful as you can sort the programs in different ways. Sometimes you want the programs listed by title. Other times you might want to see all the Loriciels titles together. Then you might want them listed by author. The problem with Oric.org is everything is lumped in together. ...

Re: Oric cleaning :)

I've not had too much trouble with the plastic on Atmoses getting discoloured. It's seems quite sturdy stuff. I have in the past washed the key tops. A little WD40 usually does a good job of removing stickers etc and can brighten up the surface. Oric-1s are a bit different and the case can become di...

Re: Is BD-DOS lost to time?

I'm not sure which version of BD DOS it is? I have documentation for DOS4 which includes BASIC v2. So I'd assume there has to be some overlay with the new Basic. I have an Oric with an expansion pack that houses a ROM chip with the Basic - I think that one is V3 BASIC. After the initial software by ...
