Small game: Robot

Post by Symoon »

Hi,
I just added this small game, found in a private tape I probably got from a seller or a gift long ago:
https://www.oric.org/software/robot-2484.html

I couldn't find the author nor where it comes from (magazine?). If anyone knows, please let me know ;)
Thanks

Interesting, this seems to be the kind of game I was programming when I was coding in BASIC on the 8 bit Thomson machines (MO5, TO7/70, TO9, etc.) in the 80s. ;)

I only had the chance to work a few hours in total with Oric machines back then (Oric 1) and I only remember writing a mini racing game with it (nothing fancy, just text mode and scrolling by writing on the last line) so I am most likely not the author (and even if I were, I doubt the tape would have survived and reached you anyway ).

Damn, I should try to find these old games of mine, I am sure I still have the sources somewhere at my parents's place. :D

Looks like a type-in.
There was one called Meccano Man which they called Metal Man, presumably to avoid copyright issues. (Meccano being the popular metal engineer building toy.)
There are others like Android Attack that are similar.

I'm not aware of one called Robot.

I've found a tape with the handwritten title 'Robots'. It came with a lot of copied tapes and most of the software wasn't original.
I haven't had time to load this yet.
There were a few other titles like 'Pontoon' which was in Oric Owner so I'm going to have a check it isn't in there.

OK, I've had a look at my Robots tape and it is a different game, basically teaching how to count (or subtract).

I've had a quick look through the books of games and can't find anything called Robot.

Well, thanks for trying Steve.
If I had to bet, I'd go for it to be from one of those all-computers French magazines.
