Oric Owner?

Here is the place to discuss about the magazines (CEO Mag, OUM, Rhetoric, Theoric, Hebdogiciel, ... are all welcome here) and books.

Oric Owner?

Post by Antiriad2097 »

20 years ago I had a near complete collection of Oric Owner magazine. I've been looking to retrieve these, but they're either buried deep in a box in my mother's loft or she's thrown them out and can't bear to tell me - I can't find them :(

For the last few months I've been watching ebay, but I've not seen any issues there either.

Are there any online resources (or other methods) that will let me revisit these magazines?

Hiya Antiriad2097,
don't have an answer to your question regarding online access to Oric Owner. Although, that would be a great project for someone with these mags and a scanner.

Did want to say hello to a fellow North Easterner.
I was born and bred in Elgin, before living and working in Aberdeen for 7 years (working for Comet of all places.) Now I am in Lexington, Kentucky, USA.

Passed through Aberdeen only a few weeks ago...

Spider, fit like :D

Nice to 'meet' you.

I'm more than a little surprised at the response: What are the odds of getting a reply, on a French run forum with barely 2 dozen members, about a 20 year old system, from an American ex-patriot who lived virtually next door. I've shopped at Comet many times, so its entirely possible we've met

I did see the holiday thread, didn't realise you came quite so close though.

By coincidence, one of the players in the retro gaming league I run lives in Elgin (the rather obviously named Elgin_McQueen).

Me, I'm born and bred Aberdonian.

I had a word with Mort about scanning, but he's not come across any Oric mags and I'm having no luck at all in tracking them down :(

Are there any specialist Oric reatilers that might give me more luck than ebay?

Loved what you said! I have run across many such 'coincidences' quite a few times online.
My last girlfriend was from Tamworth, Birmingham, England. A male friend of hers from there had a female friend in Aberdeen, on ICQ. Long story short, I made contact with this girl on ICQ also, and found out that she literally was my NEXT DOOR neighbour!!!

Did pop into Comet while in Aberdeen. It was a pity to find Willowbank Road closed down, but that store needed closed anyway, and I love the new one at the beach. Visited Kittybrewster also.
Stayed up in Hilton with some church friends, and went to the Woodside Fountain Gospel Hall conference at Woodside School.
Did go to the beach, and introduced Arianna to how windy and cold it is there!

While on holiday my Mum gave me money to buy myself a top notch scanner as a birthday gift. Still yet to do so, but would not have the Oric mags to scan anyway.
However, when I was back in Elgin, I did pickup my Enterprise notes from my Mum's - ones that were officially sent to me from Enterprise themselves!!! These should be a goldmine for that community.

Oric Owner

Post by si_one »

Hi, I have issues 1 - 10 of Oric Owner in my collection (also issues 1 - 7 of the Tansoft Gazette). Unfortunately my scanner is not working at the moment, but once I have sorted this out I will happily scan them all. Incidentally, I bought both lots from Paul Kaufman about a year ago. I am always on the look-out for other Oric magazines and would be interested to hear from anyone who has spares or scans of OUM etc. I Hope that this is of some help. Simon

That's great news Simon, I for one would appreciate your efforts.

Considering the low cost of scanners, have you considered asking for donations? I for one wouldn't object to throwing a few pounds your way to get this done. A very few of us putting in a small sum would be more than enough for the hardware...

If you are interested, I can host the scans on the website:

So far I have only the covers, but having the real mags would be cool :)

Of course it depends of the size, I do not have an unlimited amount of room :)

Oric Owner Mags

Post by Steve M »

These mags do come up on Ebay from time to time. They may nto have been there for a little while but keep checking and they will appear !

I've never bothered scanning them as they were fairly common here and most people that were interested in them managed to get hold of them.

I suppose there are people new to the Oric and rediscovering it that would appreciate scans.

If anyone is going to start scanning these could they post here so that we don't all do issue one ? With a bit of combined effort we could get them done.
