Searching for Krystal Worlds (edited by OUM)
Hello,
We have some missing games on oric.org. One of them is Krystal Worlds (the first one). Steve has found and shared some informations about the game but i've not this one and it seems that there's no backup of this game in the wolrd.
Does anobody has this tap or dsk file (or even able to digitalize this one) ?
It should have been edited by OUM alias Mirage Software, and programmed by Robert Cook.
Thanks a lot.
Didier

Never heard of that one. Maybe released too late, when there was no more information or news about the computer here in Spain.
I already mentioned it, I think, but I once saw an educational software called Quimioric or Quimoric. Does anybody remember it?

I've found a Quimoric advert in MicroHobby 027 (spanish mag), with some games sold by "Software Center" in Barcelona but ... that's all.
No tap file in my archive
Sorry

Sorry, guys, I have no copies. KW1 was Quilled, so perhaps not portable to disk or emulator? I don't think I've ever seen an Oric Quilled game make it to a non-tape format, but I could be wrong there...
Re: Searching for Krystal Worlds (edited by OUM)
@coco.oric Ah, too bad. I think this one is a real Missing In Action.
@robcook sorry for the silly question but what does "Quilled" mean? Which other Oric games were "quilled"?

Re: Searching for Krystal Worlds (edited by OUM)
The Quill was a program designed to make adventure games. Transfered it but never used it.
Anyway I think Quilled means the game was made with The Quill
EDIT: I thought I had games using The Quill, but apparently not after a 1st quick search.

This is very interesting! Thanks for sharing.
EDIT: Two download links: on oric.org tap file, inlay and scanned manual,
and HERE 13MB zip file containing the same tap file and Quill_(Oric)_Manual.pdf.

Ah, the name rings a bell! But why wouldn't those games be transferred to tap or dsk?
Re: Searching for Krystal Worlds (edited by OUM)
Are you sure there's no manuals on Oric.org ?
I scanned them, but maybe didn't put them online yet... (can't check from work, oric.org banned)
EDIT: yes, everything is on Oric.org, just just have to scroll down to the "stuff"section (you need to be logged in 1st, though)

Yes, sorry for not clarifying. The Quill was a brilliant adventure-writing system. A fantastic bit of software, later eclipsed on other micros by GAC Graphic Adventure Creator, as The Quill was text only.
Re: Searching for Krystal Worlds (edited by OUM)
For what I read, it was the precession of PAWS (Professional Adventure Writing System) which incidentally I used on the Spectrum
If shares some concepts, and I agree it was a fantastic piece of software, very easy to use and quite powerful for the day!
Did not know it existed for the Oric... Does anyone know any game written with it (available, that is)?

Well, i hope that we'll be able to find KW1 and digitalize it.
I didn't know the gilsoft adventure system. Thanks iss for the link

Hello Coolman66.
Yes can you post your tap (all kw files). i don't think that it's the good one because kw2 has several parts on the tap.
part 1 KW2LOADER.PT1/ KW.001/KW1.BAS
part 2 KW2
but the oric.org file of kw2 is also infested of bugs. so we can look if your file is different
thanks a lot
Didier

Hello,
This is a special post to train robcook's memory
As you are the author of Krytal Worlds II in 1996 (only more than 20 years yet), you surely remember, Rob, the meaning of this message:
DSIOJ LIQUID HESE , found somwhere in the game, don't you ?
We, (Symoon, Laurentd75 and I) think this means: DRINK LIQUID HERE
but we are wondering if there was a code to translate the message or if we are in front of transferts bugs.
R transformed in S , N transformed in O and K transformed in J, in these three cases, it may be a transfert error on the b0 of the ASCCI code.
And perheaps more clearely: Do you write the message in clear English or do you propose a puzzle ?
and susidiairy question: if it was a puzzle, could you give us, the key of this enigma ?
