L'Abbaye des morts (by Locomalito)

Post by astrofra »

Hi guys!

I've always been fond of Locomalito's work, a graphic designer from Spain that strives to re-explore again and again the gaming culture of the 80's & 90's.

Original PC version of "L'Abbaye des morts" with its aweseome Speccy look.

One of his projects, called "L'abbaye des morts" was widely acclaimed by the gaming indie scene. It was created by Locomalito and his friend Gryzor87 after a trip they made to France in the Cathars land and his heavely inspired by the visual style of the Spectrum 48k games. The original version of the game was created with GameMaker, thus making ports to alternate platforms quite impossible. However, the game was adapted to the Megadrive/Genesis and to Linux/SDL as well.

As the code of the Linux version is available on Google code, along with the original assets (1 color per sprite), I though it could be a cool project to create an Oric version.
I don't think the C/SDL code can be compiled to the Oric, but it surely details the game logic & gameplay mechanics.

The Google code is here, available in 2 flavors (SDL and SDL2) : https://code.google.com/p/abbaye-for-linux/

Enjoy & happy new year 2015.

Edit: AH! There's even a real Speccy version, with color clashing everywhere! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F7-XnSAu3Uk

This sounds like a good idea! It could be a really great platform game for the Oric. I do hope someone jumps in and tries to make the conversion.

I'd be willing to help if needed, though I am currently quite busy and thinking about a new project :)
