Argh sad to hear such bad news about Cumulus...

I think it should be possible to organize ourselves to make a small production. I have no experience (and, like Debug, I have two left hands when it comes to soldering), but I could ask around at work and see if anybody can give an idea.

For the road to airfield i am considering using embedded codes in the graphics to indicate rough terrain, road verges and serious collisions :) Embedded codes are like ascii codes 8 to 11, 13 to 15 and 24 to 25. They are not used in HIRES and are shown in black like code 64. I used embedded codes i...

Ouch. I had the intention to buy one of those cables too, but if they don't work on modern TVs I might think about it twice.

I am currently using an old CRT TV, so I assume it would work, but want to change to a LCD TV to gain some space in the small table where I have my Oric...

And it is one of the reasons why fonts 6 pixels (7 also?) high are so efficient. Anyway the problem is still there. Of course a 6x6 tile would be the easiest, fastest and more logical solution, but again, if converting a game, sprites should be reduced in size, or else more tiles would be used, whic...

BTW the Oric will be on display at our Retro Gaming Weekend 7th/7th May Swannington, Leicestershire, showing the newest games! As an advertisment they posted this video of Space:1999 running on a real Oric (good opportunity to see how fast it loads and how it looks/sounds on a real machine) http://w...

This is a very interesting question indeed. I have been lately reading about how 2D tiled games were done on the speccy and other platforms and this is one of the constraints I found if these games were targetted to the Oric. As I have not done any tests I cannot tell about how this extra CPU cost c...

BTW DBug, in the wikipedia article it states: This modification enabled the Oric-1 user to add a second rom (containing the Oric Atmos system) to a spare rom socket on the the Oric-1 circuit board. Then, using a basic DPST (double pole single toggle) switch, the user could then switch between the ne...

That is very kind indeed.

Never thought that 1337 would have visibility outside our little community to be frank.

Thanks indeed!

How did the meeting go, then. Could anyone who went post some feedback, please?

And are there nice photos of the meeting? :)

Thanks! and a big thankyou to all who helped (I see you're still here thrust26) This illustrates my point about the new games rating in oric.org. New Oric games are comparable now to the best games of similar 8-bit machines... oldies and even new games. Dbug, maybe it could be a good idea to update ...

Small update this time http://retromaster.wordpress.com/ , though already found a bug and solved it in the sector writting... And the save/load feature of Space:1999 works with Cumulus, which is good. Most probably all those sector-based accessing routines we use in games are working. This is very v...

Well, all the latest Oric projects are mentioned in this article of Oldschool Gaming: http://oldschool-gaming.com/view_article.php?art=2010_review They say: There was monumental news for Oric lovers because, after a couple of years in the wilderness, they were smothered with programming love; isomet...

We compare things so different and you will have automatically the new games in the TOP5. And isn't that logical? Seems so to me... Let's face it, nearly all games for the Oric back then were quite primitive (at least), mostly when compared with software for other similar computers. Recent software...

You are completely right Symoon. People simply are not used to commetn/rate on oric.org anymore I guess, but it is a very visible site for people outside these forums, so I think we should make an effort in supporting it. I have commented and rated the latest games (except those I worked at, of cour...

Cumuls has now a proper UI in the LCD display, mounts up to four disk images and supports sector writes (still under test).

Mmm... I am sure all of us are following the progress of this little marvel, so not sure if posting here adds anything :)
