Re: Spammers or legit people?

I guess the question is answering itself: image_2024-02-05_131922060.png Now the real question is why it happened, and if it is humans or if it has been somewhat AI automated to answer the registration question. Until that is solved, I will not validate any new account, so if you are an actual perso...

Re: No Problem by IRIS

Regarding the music player, is it one you wrote/improved, or is it an existing one you ported to your assembler? I was considering using the Arkhos tracker for Encounter, but I've not really followed the "state of the art" on how to get a music made, exported, compiled and play on the Oric...

Re: No Problem by IRIS

How does the error reporting work, when there's an error in the assembler code?

If "assemble" was a macro instead of a function, you could have it pass __FILE__ and __LINE__ to output the possible location of a syntax error.

Re: No Problem by IRIS

I guess technically something similar could be achieved with an assembler accepting sections of C code which could be compiled into a simple executable taking inputs and merging the C program output to the "tape" stream, or pushing the system, have sections of arbitrary language (C, Python...

Re: No Problem by IRIS

I can see how having C to generate table data is practical, but the assembler code syntax becomes quite muddled I think, with all the " and \n assemble("scrwipe:\n" " LDA #40\n" " STA ZPTMP\n" " LDX #27\n" "scrwipe_copyloop:\n"

Re: No Problem by IRIS

The demo is generated by a C program that you run on your computer. The program contains a 6502 assembler, and the C code essentially acts as the preprocessor generating the source and compiling it and spitting out a tap image at the end. Would you mind describing the reasons/benefits of that appro...

Spammers or legit people?

I tend to find it suspicious when a bunch of people try to register on the forum at the same time.

Does anyone know any of these users? Could be someone who mentioned the forum somewhere and they are legit requests, ... or they could just be spammers.

Re: Oric.org updates

Maybe we need some semi-admin access mode for people making software so they can edit/add their own prods?

Re: Oric.org updates

Great work, thanks!

If I may, I think we should try to add information on the most recently released stuff, like last week I wanted to link somebody on Wizard's lair released last year, and well...

Re: OSDK .tap takes a bit too long to load ..

The easiest way to see where the size goes is to run the osdk_showmap, so you get a detailed list of all the code and data sections.

Re: Oric.org updates

I had that game back then (always loaded with errors, so sometimes crashed in the middle of a game session). It was quite slow. I always wondered how a "revamped" version with hi-res graphics and colors and written in machine code (or at least, C) would look and play like :) If only there...

Re: Microdisc Restoration

Regarding Microdisc and Gotek, I wrote an article about that on my blog some time ago, including how to switch A<->B easily

Re: Microdisc Restoration

My experience with Microdisc units is that the drive may need grease, and the PSU tends to have problems (be careful with the polarity of the connector, it's a standard 4 pin molex but the +12/+5/gnd are not in the same order as on PCs). I never had a problem with the caps on the disc controller boa...

Re: No Problem by IRIS

There is a calendar of all parties on https://www.demoparty.net. There's no real protocol, basically in general you need a nickname and a group name, mostly because most "compo systems" will need that for the purpose of showing the prod and recording votes. Regarding the party it helps tar...

Re: Which Oric character to use for a mural?

The French importer of the Oric, ASN, was using a lion in most of their early advertising material, not sure why.
