Re: JOric
I've been assuming it was the other way around, i.e. that the I/O port was the side benefit. My first impression of the chip was that it seemed strange the way in which a register value is set. I'm so used to the way in which the 6522 registers are set, simply through being memory mapped, that it se...
Re: JOric
I'm really finding it extremely interesting reading up on the AY-3-8912. I didn't know a lot about it until about a week ago, although I've realised now that some of my favourite arcade games used this chip, e.g. Gyruss, an all time favourite of mine. Amazing how many home computers and arcade machi...
Re: JOric
IIRC, Zip And Zap from Twilighte exists in TAP format and (for sure) plays a music with samples. Wow, that Zip N Zap has a really great souding title tune, and since I don't have disk support yet, then this one and Stormlord are looking like my best sound testing games. That one has about 40 minute...

Re: Reverse engineering the 6522 VIA chip?
I quite agree, but unfortunately there isn't yet a die shot of the HCS10017 that I know of. Decaping and imaging isn't something I'm able to do myself. I would quite happily switch to the HCS10017 when a die shot does become available.
Re: JOric
Be careful if you start looking at games from Twilighte and Chema, you risk to be disappointed when you go back to the earlier Oric games :) I know what you mean. Those recent games look amazing. I'm really excited to play Space 1999 and Blake's 7 (graphic adventures are another one of my hobby int...

Reverse engineering the 6522 VIA chip?
I have some experience (on a hobby basis) in reverse engineering the logic of NMOS silicon die shots. I was wondering if anyone would be interested if I were to make a start on reversing the logic of the 6522 VIA chip from the images on the following web pages: http://visual6502.org/images/pages/MOS...

Re: French Oric with modulator ?
I've just purchased a Cumulus online. Looking forward to receiving it and then giving it a go.
Re: JOric
Thanks for the suggestions. StormLord is an amazing looking game. I love it. Impossible Mission and Oricium look great as well. I'm going to be busy playing these games now rather than working on the emulator.
Makes me want to write some games.

Re: JOric
The quick tape loading is implemented now and the STNICCC 2000 demo appears to be working. It is the first .tap file I tried, in fact I have yet to try another one. I had the demo running side by side with the Youtube video. Everything was exactly in sync as far as the timing goes, but I did notice ...
Re: JOric
Use the test ROM to be able quickly to test. You won't need to support any sort of file format, and it gives a pretty good stretch of your ULA. Thanks for the tip. I'll take a look at that test ROM this evening. So I did give the diagnostic ROM a run on JOric this evening. Everything appears to be ...
Re: JOric
I assume you are writing a generic video mode emulator that handles correctly any combination of HIRES and TEXT? Some of the earlier emulators had hard coded TEXT and HIRES modes, and miserably failed handling this type of thing: http://osdk.org/index.php?page=articles&ref=ART9#title15 I gave t...
Re: JOric
I had attempted to implement it, but got the logic wrong, so it wasn't working.
I now have a flashing cursor, and working inverse bit. Thanks for the tip.

Re: JOric
I now have an implementation of the keyboard logic working, so I can start to interact with the emulator. See example below: joric_screenshot_2.png No flashing cursor at the moment. Obviously missing something there. Any ideas? Also I was wondering if people have a preference as to how the keys are ...
Re: JOric
Cool! I followed the exact same route: from Vic-20 to Oric emulation. Probably being the person to have written what was until just now the most recent new Oric emulator, definitely don't hesitate to shoot over any questions if I can be any help. Hey thanks, I certainly will. Top tips: Use the test...

Re: French Oric with modulator ?
Thanks for the welcome Dbug and Chema. :D Yes, I noticed the community wasn't that big. That's part of what I liked about it as I was reading through a few discussions. Lot's of interesting topics and I haven't yet seen a single argument. The VIC 20 Denial forums sometimes go off on a tangent with t...
