Re: Simplest MMC Interface hardware

it may be a problem using fram, i think ramtron may be discontinuing 5v parts! :( gonna check this and also a slightly inferior alternative. Please, if you find an alternative to the Ramtron chips, even in 3.3V or less, please let me know ;) Anyway, if you're looking for a "second eye" to...

Re: Simplest MMC Interface hardware

32k of ram - you mean as 2 banks for o.s.? i keep getting confused about why anybody wants a ram chip. and the mcu cant write an o.s. image without sitting on the whole address & data busses - that's gonna eat up all my i/o i'd rather have the expansion rom just written from the oric side. Well...

Re: Simplest MMC Interface hardware

Well, I'm not sure to understand all what you mean, and it seems to me that's you're ditching away some critical stuff about the Oric expansion bus and signals, but well, I may be wrong, or too pessimistic. However, if you haven't done it already, please have a look at Retromaster's Cumulus-related ...

Re: Simplest MMC Interface hardware

Using page 3 would be much easier, all you have to do is handle "IO" and "IO control" signals to disable the VIA. Using page 0 would require to properly handle the MAP signal, which is much more difficult as its timing is picky. On Microdisc for instance, you had to adjust a vari...

Re: Simplest MMC Interface hardware

no buss issues should happen, the iric is 1Mhz, the micro is 20Mhz - it can slave the buss and wait for the clocks. and as it can run down to about 2.7v weak signals shouldnt be an issue - although that shouldnt happen unless to have a 6inch ribbon cable anyway! I think you're a bit optimistic ther...

Well, my Oric project would need a full rewrite ;) Maybe some day... I've played a bit with the 6502 core of the FPGA64 project ( http://www.syntiac.com/fpga64.html ), and it would be perfect for this task. I agree that a FPGA-based handhled would be great, as there are many FPGA cores available now...

You can take a cheaper route with a more modern AD724 for instance.

Hi there, I'm just back from the "RGC 2010" retrogaming event, from where I created this topic, but a few minutes after doing it, I had no luck with with 3G connection, and couldn't get online again. During this event, I've talked with my friend Jeff (author of the HxC Floppy Drive Emulato...

Microdisc replacement project

Is anyone aware of this project ?

I had the same idea while discussing with Fabrice last month... Well this project is more advanced than what I've done myself on this topic ;)

Idea - Tape Deck Emulator / SD-Card

I had an idea this morning (well, to be honest I somewhat "stoled" it from DBug during an IRC chat session ;)) : build a Tape Deck Emulator (TDE for short) based on a microcontroller (MCU). Basically, the MCU would be connected to Oric's tape connector, and read .TAP files from a SD-Card, ...

Yes, it requires a Microdisc (or any other controller), as it only emulates the floppy drive. Support for writing is available for "standard" MFM tracks, which I think is the case for Oric. See here for more information : http://hxc2001.free.fr/floppy_drive_emulator/index.html and http://t...

Well I haven't worked on it since what is shown on these photos. However, I also have an Altera DE1 board, and it features all the required interfaces, so it won't need an additional board, like I added for the Spartan-3 board. Someday, I will "port" it over this board (as well as many oth...
