Re: 3" diskettes?

Well, the medical doctor has spoken, and he knows well. :) He is completely right. Besides microwave oven radiation is not mutagenic, which means it cannot produce mutations, and cancer (only wavelengths shorter than ultra violet are, hence the sun radiation is dangerous). We've been using them for ...

Re: Software ORICAID by MICROGRAF Help Archive

That is excellent news. Finding copies of old missing software is great. I think Symoon is your man. He is a real expert in preserving software from tapes.

Thanks indeed!

Re: Oricutron 1.0 (EDIT: Now 1.2)

Okay, I decided to take the shortcut, blantantly stealing code from the Oricutron sources, and making a quick kludge program to convert from ORT to TAP. Done! :D A quick warning... For what I saw, Oricutron's method for saving files works well when the program calls the ROM, but cannot generate TAPs...

Re: Oricutron 1.0 (EDIT: Now 1.2)

Well, in fact what I wanted is a way either to save to tap in oricutron (not ORT) or to convert an ort to tap .. I can load the game from ort, create a snapshot and save all the memory content (including screen), but then I'll need the value of processor registers and any data which could be on the ...

Re: Oricutron 1.0 (EDIT: Now 1.2)

Hi guys! I am having trouble helping a friend with porting a game to the Oric. Maybe you can help, because it is an emulator thing (I think). He is making a game with The Quill, and the first part is ready. He is working with Oricutron (last official version, I guess) and he was never able to save t...

Re: Sedoric 4.0

The *drive belt* in those drives that use them is a weak link. The old Apple II+ "Disk II" drives had a belt drive -- with age these are now really unreliable BUT with a replacement belt, they are still usable. Direct drive drives (where a brushless "pancake motor" drives the disk directly) should ...

Re: Sedoric 4.0

Hmmm I'm using 3.5 disks quite a lot and they are quite reliable in my experience. Not only with the Oric, but also on Ataris, Amigas, CPCs... My old 3 disks, on the other hand, (CPC in this case) nearly all died probably because of humidity. What usually fails is the elastic band inside the floppy ...

Re: Connectivity problems (again)

Not sure how to translate it.. it is an option of the mobile version of Chrome to save data when loading pages... it is in the config. In any case, I have been told that there is some info about how to deal with this chinese crawlers here https://www.johnlarge.co.uk/blocking-aggressive-chinese-crawl...

Re: Connectivity problems (again)

Several forums I usually visit are experiencing the same issues. Massive connections from China ISPs, mostly from Android OS. Not sure what countermeasures they implemented, but in at least two I had to deactivate the data saving option of my mobile Chrome to be able to log in. They mostly banned IP...

Only 2 guests currently, and the forum works like a charm :)

Maybe the thing is that 'defence force' is quite an attractive name for some ;)

Re: New Member and New Oric Atmos Owner

Not an electronics expert at all, but you get a stable image (and some words a few days back) so I'd bet the ULA, ROM and CPU are ok. You had sound, so the AY seems ok too and probably the VIA. I think the problem is, as usual, the memory. Did you gently touch the chips to see if any gets really hot...

Re: Connectivity problems (again)

I experienced a few strange things lately (large loading time, connecting errors, ...) but rarely, so I always thought it was on my side of the connection. Again, thanks Dbug for your efforts keeping this forum up and running. You know how grateful we are and how important it is for the Oric communi...
