Re: Oriclopedia: A series of videos on all things Oric

Regarding the differences, I was only expecting changes making the machine either easier or cheaper to produce: It's supposed to be 100% compatible with the Oric Atmos at the software level. Will see... I've just got one (from the same source)! 8) Good! I'm glad you got one, so if I struggle with t...

Re: ULA versions

What about the ones with just two lines

PHILIPPINES
HCS10017

without any other batch information, do we know where they come from, and if they actually work?

Re: ULA versions

Damn, I did search "ULA" before, did not go far enough in the history in the search results :)

So basically the number does not matter, a particular chip may work with a particular Oric and not some other (at least in relation to Cumulus compatibility)

ULA versions

I was looking at a few of the motherboard photos, and ULA chips and ebay, and I was wondering if there was a difference between the various revisions. From what I've seen, we can find the following: - HCS 10017 | CDI-8B | 6809 ? - HCS 10017 | CDI / 8F | 8350 - HCS 10017 | CDI 8F | 8422 - HCS 10017 |...

Re: Is BD-DOS lost to time?

Maybe the simplest would be to contact the guy on the forum post you linked.

Apparently the two authors of the Byte Drive 500 are Paul Simpson and Peter Halford working at Tyrell Computers, which happens to match at least one person on Linked In: https://www.linkedin.com/in/paul-simpson-23910112/

Re: Gotek USB floppy emulator

Looks like both the Gotek and the Hitachi hfd305d use jumpers to select the drive, so the double switch thingy would probably work :)

Re: Gotek USB floppy emulator

Another question: Would it be easy to find some switch with two sets of contacts and two positions for each, which would allow to easily swap between the microdisc and gotek as the main drive? I assume it's just a matter of diverging the two drive select pins through the switch and either keep them ...

Additionally I drill a hole for the red LED and bend it like the green one - it blinks nicely by write operations and I don't see reason to leave it hidden inside the box.
I would have done it, but mine did not have the red led installed at all :)

Re: Gotek USB floppy emulator

EDIT: Changed the youtube link, it was incorrect I've spent the afternoon on these, but I finally have two working gotek, with FlashFloppy 2.14, buzzer for the loading sound, and oled display: IMGP7478_small.JPG Now, HxC versus Gotek... I do have an HxC, the form factor is just not as good, at leas...

Re: Gotek USB floppy emulator

Never mind, I had left the jumpers in the default positions, I used the photo from ISS to see where it should have been , and the Oric immediately booted on 1337 By the way, does the latest firmware support dsk images with no need to converting them to hfe? No idea, I would need to check that... aft...

Re: Gotek USB floppy emulator

I successfully installed Flash Floppy (v2.14) and when starting up I see F.F. after installing the Oled mod, I see "FlashFloppy v2.14". I correctly see the name of the demos (BORN1983, BuggyBoy, ...) but the Oric still shows "insert system disc". I guess I need a specific config file or jumper confi...

Re: Oriclopedia: A series of videos on all things Oric

Great video, and how exciting! I've not heard of a Nova 64 before. Do you know whether the 64 indicates the amount of RAM? What differences do you expect between these and the Atmos? Well, even the Oric Atmos 48k has 64k of ram, just that you can't access the entire ram :) I guess they changed the ...

Re: New Oric Project. The OriClone-1

Good! Now, I would recommend that you add some information to the readme, so people who reach the github page knows what the project is, the intended result, current state of the project, known issues and things to implement, etc... Basically, on all these things you need to give all the overview in...

Re: New Oric Project. The OriClone-1

Regarding feedback, things here seems to obey no clear logic: Sometimes there are no messages for a number of days, and then (like yesterday) there's an avalanche of answers all over the place :) Now, specifically regarding your project, it's generally easier to attract people by having pictures, be...

Re: Oriclopedia: A series of videos on all things Oric

About the keyboard - the story with RadioShack relation is very interesting indeed. I saw it on eBay too and I was really tempted to buy it, but price was bit high. Well yes, the price was too high, which is why I contacted the guy and asked him why these keyboards was at twice the price of the TRS...
