Re: Oric HFE file
You're right about Oricutron. What you are saying is that the FDC automatically adds this extra byte after the CRC, so if we format a floppy disk there will also be this extra byte at the end of the index field? I don't remember reading this in the FDC specs but maybe I missed it. This depend on th...

Re: Oric HFE file
I don't know why there is a $FE after the CRC of all the modified sectors but it shouldn't be there. Oricutron may be modified to have a better dsk scanning routine but i think hxctest_hfe.dsk is faulty. If somebody can check the gap at the end of the sector 4 track $14 in hxctest.hfe and see if th...

Re: Oric HFE file
So in most cases, end users will not be able to do this easily themselves, because you need a number of things to be able to reprogram that Gotek Floppydrive Emulator. Between 100 and 200 "end users" per month flash the HxC firmware to Gotek. There is nothing difficult and this can be don...

Re: Oric HFE file
Please note that many (most?) Oric dsk images are corrupted/malformed : Bad header, bad sync word, bad crc... The hardware will reject most of them. The emulator will have to fix them at the load. Btw this is maybe why Oricutron and OricExplorer use hardcoded values... I think that the Oric communi...

Re: Oric HFE file
And Jeff: any possibility of natively supporting Oric DSK in your firmware removing any need to convert to and from HFE? Am sure that would be an argument that would convince many here to buy your firmware…. Once all the "hidden" dsk format constraints/specifications are cleared, i will b...

Re: Oric HFE file
By the way, DBug, I did find a nice page explaining the different firmwares, but alas it is in Dutch. But maybe Google translate helps. https://gotek.nl/gotek-firmwares/ And Jeff: any possibility of natively supporting Oric DSK in your firmware removing any need to convert to and from HFE? Am sure ...

Re: Oric HFE file
Good call, Jeff. Tried Euphoric, and guess what, the image does work: Schermafbeelding 2021-05-15 165901.png So I think we can now confirm that Oricutron is apparently to blame. Funny thing is that Oric Explorer also can not read adapted images. So question: Can there be any reason why the DOS (Eup...

Re: Oric HFE file
As i wrote earlier, you need to regenerate the hfe from the dsk : this can't work if the images was modified by the other firmware. Did that. See second mail. Still same result. Are you sure ? The conversion seems fine. Can you read back the modifications you have done from the HFE on the Oric ? (P...

Re: Oric HFE file
OK, so now I have succesfully changed firmware of my Cumana Reborn to the HxC firmware. Good news: - It works! unnamed.jpg - I like the rotaory button behaviour actually better: it now waits for a click to confirm and does not start right away, which I think is better. - All images that are on my U...

Re: Oric HFE file
Not sure what the solution would be, is there some short blog post or video that explains what's what? The solution is simple and logical : Ask the support to the guy you paid to get the hardware. ;) Some guys are making some good business with open source / free software... They should do the supp...

Re: Oric HFE file
btw @xahmol for your tests it is important to reconvert the dsk files to hfe. a "touched"/modified hfe with the previous firmware will fail...

Re: Oric HFE file
I was trying to ask someone about the Hxc software and they were unwilling to offer any help claiming the software was only for converting to Hfe . It obviously does more than that. This sort of 'help' puts me off buying any HxC device. As far i know you are not an HxC device/firmware user. I only ...

Re: Oric HFE file
Update: now received by mail the firmware file and instructions to update to HxC firmware by USB. Now gathering the courage to try it ;-) So if anyone can confirm that you have already successfully done this on the Cumana Reborn, you would make me sleep well.... Otherwise will try anyway tomorrow, ...

Re: Oric HFE file
Problem is that I have not a clue if the issue is actually in your software, or if it is in the Cumana Reborn implementation or the Oric Windows tools. So I stopped pressing for it personally. As far i know the Cumana Reborn was never shipped with the HxC Firmware... Have you really installed the H...
