Re: SCSI harddrives...

Yeah, I hear what you're saying guys about going a more hi-tech approach, it would certainly be less stressful, that's for sure. But I prefer to deal with 'tech-of-the-day' when at all possible. Seeing the prices being asked for 50-pin SCSI drives these days, and it would probably be cheaper to go h...

SCSI harddrives...

Question, what is the outcome of sticking a big (say, 40mm x 5mm disk) magnet to the back of a SCSI drive? Read on to find out. I've just had something of a melt-down with my Atari ST setup. i had two SCSI drives, a 243Meg Maxtor and a 1Gig Seagate to backup the Maxtor & Falcon drives. I've had ...

Re: Sedoric's TAKE command, help required...

how could this have been missed, and why has it never been removed? Things like that are missed because testing is boring. Thinking up all the weird and wonderful cases for e.g. a memory copy, then checking each one does exactly what you want *and no more*, is boring :) Bugs don't surprise me. It's...

Re: Sedoric's TAKE command, help required...

About the buffers you can protect them from BASIC with HIMEM#ADDRESS where ADDRESS is set just bellow the buffers. But this is bit ugly and it's possible that your program goes 'OUT OF MEMORY'. Well, it would be very helpful if someone with more knowledge in Sedoric internals shares how to set the ...

Re: Sedoric 'utility' wanted...

I think there was a utility to mark bad sectors, but I think it needs a good area for the DIR menu. Sometimes it's the DIR menu that gets messed. I think if the other sectors are OK you can copy some good files over to a good disk. Tools like BDDISK and Nibble may be able to help identify bad parts...

Re: Sedoric 'utility' wanted...

Attached is the Atari ST app for anyone interested, to have a play with. Its name, 'Diskcopy', should be thought of in the simplest sense of the word, ie. it doesn't even pretend to be able to copy protected disks etc. just 'normal' tracks & sectors. I've improved the memory management (aka, add...

Re: Sedoric's TAKE command, help required...

Question, is there a list of bugs still 'resident' in the various flavours of Sedoric available somewhere? I've spent a fair amount of time playing with the TAKE command, and gotta admit that it seems pretty useless when used in a program! The problem is that the TAKE's disk-buffer resides in the Or...

Re: Sedoric 'utility' wanted...

The Oric world anyway,I've been playing with my Atari ST, writing a program to write MFM *.dsk files to ST disks, so I can then get them onto my Oric. Just after succeeding in transferring a few *.dsk files as well, including Sedoric 4, so it was worth the effort. Hey, this is extremely interesing!...

Re: Sedoric's TAKE command, help required...

Excellent! So not in ram-overlay after all, wonder where i got that notion from. Just knowing where it is, is all I require, as I can then MOVE it where ever I want. Thanks for that.

Re: Sedoric 4.0

Just a quick post about a little discovery I've made after I transferred Sedoric 4 to a 3.5" disk. My system boots from the 3" Microdisc, in this instance, from a Sedoric v3 disk, my second drive is a 3.5" floppy, drive B. Eager to get Sedoric 4 onto a 3" disk, I issued a SYSTEM ...

Sedoric's TAKE command, help required...

Hi. I'm trying to use Sedoric's TAKE command but am running into difficulties. I issue an OPEN D,1, followed by a TAKE 1,0,1,A - this should load T0, S1 of drive A into the 'buffer'. Thing is, I cannot find this infernal buffer! I felt sure it was in ram overlay, somewhere from $c000 -> $c3fff, but w...

Re: Sedoric 'utility' wanted...

I've actually never tried to clean my drive, maybe I should do that, do you have hints and tips on how to proceed to clean them up? Regarding Sedoric, I think we should just scrap it and redo something from scratch, just using the low level read/write code, because in practice it does a lot of thin...

Re: Sedoric 4.0

First, a quick question about Goteks. There are many different Sellers on Amazon & Ebay, selling them for wildly varying prices - in your experience, are ALL of these drives 'flashable'? In other words, does Gotek, or whoever makes these, manufacture different versions, cheap ones that are non-...

Sedoric 'utility' wanted...

A question, does a Sedoric 'utility' exist that scans a 'faulty' disk, and on finding unreadable sectors, clears the appropriate bit in the bitmap, marking it as 'in-use'? The way it stands right now with Sedoric, even though 95% of a disk's surface may still be fine, Sedoric, on coming to the damag...

Re: Atmos/Microdisk - ghost in the machine!?!?!?

Glad you fixed that Microdisc! By the way, do you have any means of writing 3" disks from disk images (dsk)? I know there is a way of connecting a 3" unit to a PC, but it seems nobody has such a setup nowadays. Thanks. I'm fairly sure the way I did it in the past was using my Atari falcon...
